17 in 17 – MASSACHUSETTS’ TOP SPORTING EVENTS FOR 2017

Sports Define the Bay State and Support the Economy

 

Boston – Massachusetts, which prides itself on championship teams and iconic sporting events, has issued its calendar of top sporting events in 2017.

Seventeen in Seventeen: Massachusetts’ Top Sporting Events for 2017’ includes annual sporting traditions like the 65th Annual Beanpot Hockey Tournament, 121st Boston Marathon and 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta, alongside exciting new events like the 2017 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Championship, the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta and the 2017 U.S. Senior Open.

Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT) and Massachusetts Sports Marketing Office (MSMO) compiled the list.

“Massachusetts has a vibrant ecosystem of sports venues, teams and athletes that ensure quality competition and excitement for sports fans everywhere,” said Nam Pham, Assistant Secretary of Business Development and International Trade. “In addition, our tourism and hospitality industries stand ready to welcome visitors attending these sporting events and to make their experience memorable.”

“Our mission is to bring exciting sporting events to Massachusetts year after year,” said Massachusetts Sports Marketing Office Director Shannah McArdle. “In 2017, we have another stellar lineup of world class athletic competitions that will thrill visitors and residents alike.”

Among the most anticipated events is the 2017 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Gillette Stadium in May, which marks the first time both men’s and women’s lacrosse championships are taking place at the same venue. And the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta in June features dozens of tall ships from around the world along with sailing competitions and exhibitions.

Perennial iconic events in 2017 include the Beanpot Hockey Tournament at TD Garden; Boston Red Sox Opening Day at Fenway Park; the Boston Marathon; the Falmouth Road Race on Cape Cod; the Pan-Mass Challenge across the Commonwealth; the Head of the Charles Regatta along the Charles River and the Gran Prix Gloucester Cyclocross race.

Other events include: Capital One Frozen Fenway at Fenway Park; Mizuno Boston Volleyball Festival in Boston; 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship at Springfield College; Spartan Race-Boston Sprint Weekend in Rutland; 2017 US Senior Open at Salem Country Club in Plymouth; Boston Rebellion US CUP in mountain bike racing in Walpole; Dell Technologies Golf Championship in Norton and the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race.
