Pittsfield Suns

The Future’s Collegiate Baseball League kicked off last Thursday and saw games played throughout the weekend.  The Pittsfield Suns stood out, taking their first four games to quickly jump to the top of the West Division standings.  Kevin Donati (SUNY-Albany) led the way at the plate for the Suns, blasting two home runs against Wachusett on Thursday night, while finishing the weekend with a .533 batting average over four games.  Drew Marino (Polk State) tossed a gem for the Suns on Saturday in their win over Bristol.  Marino went seven innings without allowing an earned run while striking out eight batters.

In the East Division, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks and Seacoast Mavericks each jumped out to a 3-1 start.  The Sharks actually defeated the Mavericks 12-1 on Friday night behind five strong innings from Mason Hickman (Vanderbilt) and a home run and 5 RBI outing by Phillip Clarke (Vanderbilt).  Clarke is off to a sizzling hot start for the Sharks, leading the league in both batting average (.667) as well as RBI (9).  For the Mavericks, Casey Aubin (UMass) threw six innings of one-run ball in the team’s opener against the Navigators.
